Okay. What I don’t understand is that if the city has the money and they have the bonding capability, every time I hear the mayor and some people from the city council running for office, they talk about how they need $100 million to fix the 100-year-old infrastructure in Laporte. If they have the bonding authority, why don’t they fix that? Why are they putting the people of La Porte on the hook for 39 Conservancy when they’ve got problems in La Porte right now that they should fix? That I don’t understand. Maybe they can explain that to me.

I’m a resident. I’m one of the 8,000 residents of the City of Laporte. And I have two comments. One is our infrastructure in the City of Laporte is despicable. Sidewalks are broken, trees are falling on people’s heads. There’s no curves. And there’s no plan. I put in for the sidewalk repair one year it took 51 weeks for the city to get back to me to tell me my share was going to be $11,000 and their share was going to be $4,000 because I have a corner lot. Needless to say, and it was going to be due the next day. My $11,000 was payable the next day for my sidewalk to be repaired. The other question is, yes, they might qualify for a bond. But I’m going to be paying for the bond as one of the 8,000 people, plus the extra 170 people who get acquired by the city. So what are my tax implications in order to help fund this, my property taxes? When my sidewalks are broken, the infrastructure in the city of La Porte is deplorable. We have no businesses downtown. Why are we putting our money into developing, helping you guys (39N)?
If they want to grow the La Porte and to get more people to shop downtown, then it’s in their best interest to invest anyway. Because those people come into the city to do their marketing and shopping, etc, hopefully, if we get some place to go to, to shop. So I’m not opposed to it. But it sounds like nobody’s looking at the long plan and who’s going to pay for this. Because us taxpayers are going to pay for it. When I’m not getting my value, from my tax dollars to start with.

Shaw brought up that the city has numerous times said that they can work this to provide for you the tower and everything else. But so far nothing’s happened. They seem to be under the opinion that it’s going to be easy peasy. If it was that easy, why haven’t they offered that to you yet, the solution to that situation? If you wanted that tower for some time, you wanted all the other infrastructure, well, the city, they come back all the time and say, Well, yeah, we’re going to help you. We’re going to help you. We’re going to do this for you. Where’s that all at? If it is that simple, where are those offers to you to make that happen? And the form of grants and everything else. Now all of a sudden, all this. Now they’re saying, well, that can’t be done unless we enter into the program. So either they’re holding back on someone or else it’s not true. You decide one way or the other what you.
